Embellish’s top three-year-old Bold Soul has added to his impressive list of black type achievements in a brief career with victory in the G3 Chairman’s Stakes over 2000 metres at Morphettville.
He is building a formidable record for Victorian trainer Patrick Payne with five wins from his eight starts, including Listed successes last preparation in the Launceston Guineas over 2100 metres and at 2200 metres in the Tasmanian Derby.Bold Soul was freshened following his Classic victory in the summer and returned to finish third in the Listed Port Adelaide Guineas over 1800 metres and successfully stepped back up to a middle distance.
He settled back in the running and was pushed along before the turn and responded powerfully in the run home to put his age group rivals to the sword.“When he hit the flat spot, I didn’t rush him through it which gave him a chance to pick himself up,” rider Jake Noonan said.“From the 400-500 metres I felt like the winner a long way out and, while it took until the 100 to flatten, out he got there.
“I wasn’t worried about where I was or who I was following as I just wanted to get the first half right so he could finish off the last half.“I said to Paddy he looked good in the yard, and he is in good order physically still as he didn’t have a hard time in Tassie where they are trained on the beach there and can come here in good order.”
The last foal of the now retired Singspiel mare Twin Soul, Bold Soul was bred by Lou Te Keeti and sold during the Book 2 session at Karaka to Wanganui horseman Hamish Auret for $20,000 and subsequently made his way to Payne’s Victorian operation.
