Lightly raced mare About Time has continued her stellar run of form at Ellerslie as she heads toward loftier goals.
Successful in last season’s G2 Sir Patrick Hogan Stakes, our daughter of American Pharoah has continued to make grand progress during her four-year-old preparation.
About Time won a Dunstan Qualifier in December before she was triumphant in the Final on Boxing Day and completed a hat-trick of wins in an open handicap to remain unbeaten in three appearances at Ellerslie.
Her main aim is the G2 Auckland Cup on March 8 and will have more run before the 3200-metre feature, for which she is the equal $5 favourite.
“The next logical step is the Avondale Cup (G3, 2400m) and then into the Auckland Cup,” trainer Lance Noble said.
In her latest success, she bided her time under Warren Kennedy toward the back of the field before edging closer near the turn and finished too well for her opposition.
“She did it pretty easily and they didn’t go hard, and she travelled beautifully,” he said.
“She pounced on the leaders really quickly and I wasn’t overly hard on her with other races to come.”
About Time is a half-sister to multiple Australian Group One performer Young Werther with their dam the Fastnet Rock mare Romantic Time.
She has also produced Listed placegetter Romantic Lady and Villaden, who has won eight races in Australia.
Romantic Time has a two-year-old colt by Savabeel named Adoration and a yearling son of Almanzor.
