Rise At Dawn has impressively picked up where he left off at the end of his last preparation to earn a crack at a major autumn prize.
The chestnut son of Almanzor resumed against a competitive line-up in the Listed The Elms Handicap at Flemington and won with authority to earn a golden ticket into the G1 All Star Mile on March 8.
It was his first appearance since he completed a hat-trick of victories when he claimed the G3 Heatherlie Handicap in August.
“He’s been unbelievable and went through the grades terrifically well last time and I think gained 23 rating points in a single preparation,” co-trainer Will Hayes said.
Rise At Dawn settled a distant third behind a tearaway pacemaker before he reeled him in 200 metres from home and stayed on strongly under Michael Dee to score by a length and a-quarter.
“The best thing about this win was the way he was able to absorb such a hot tempo set by (leader) Buffalo River,” Hayes said,
