Well related mare Andorra added her first winning strike to a rich pedigree when she dug deep at Tauranga to open her account.
Trained for us by good friends Moira and Kieran, the lightly tried daughter of Pierro was successful over 1600 metres at her third appearance.
Victory wasn’t unexpected as the patiently handled four-year-old had been a minor placegetter in each of her last two runs.
Andorra bounced well to settle in third spot on the rail before rider Warren Kennedy angled her into the clear before the turn and the mare was a willing partner in the run to the judge to hold her rivals at bay.
We purchased her out of breeder Wentwood Grange’s draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for $450,000.
She is a half-sister to the G1 Telegraph Handicap winner Signify with their dam the unraced Stravinsky mare Pica Pica who is from the family of the multiple Hong Kong Group 3 winner Champion’s Way.
