The wait proved worthwhile when the race day covers came off Amyer Star at Te Rapa.
The Almanzor four-year-old was making her debut for trainer Shaun Phelan and ran out a comfortable winner over 1200 metres.
She completed a running double for our stallion, whose G1New Zealand Oaks-nominated daughter Everymoveyoumake had earlier added momentum to her Classic campaign with victory over 2100 metres.
Off the back off a brace of lead-up trials, Amyer Star kept the leaders within sight to the turn and then let down stylishly for rider Kevin Stott to make the perfect start to her career.
She is out of the Rip Van Winkle mare Stargazing, who won the G2 Royal Stakes and G3 Gold Trail Stakes and is a granddaughter of the multiple Group 1 winner Riverina Charm.
It is a strong Pencarrow Stud family and the Cambridge farm also bred Everymoveyoumake, whose dam is the multiple winner and Group performer Santangelo.
In her middle-distance debut, the Tony Pike-trained Everymoveyoumake settled midfield and finished powerfully along the fence to win with a minimum of fuss for rider Wiremu Pinn.
