Talented three-year-old Geriatrix confirmed an overseas venture with a strong winning performance at Rotorua. Our homebred by Almanzor, who son Eliud also bolted in at New Plymouth, posted his third win from nine appearances when he comfortably put away his age group rivals over 1400 metres. He will now head to Brisbane where Wexford Stables have tagged the G3 Fred Best Classic and G3 Gunsynd Classic as potential targets next month.“The team is confident we can take him to Australia,” said Andrew Scott, who trains Geriatrix with Lance O’Sullivan.“He is a colt that has handled a long season well, he has got great powers of recovery and he is sound, so he should go over there and hopefully perform well.“He has lacked a bit of luck at times and there is a lot of ability there.”Geriatrix had been slowly away at his previous two runs and got home late on both occasions to finish in behind the major players in the G2 Wellington Guineas and G3 Cambridge Breeders’ Stakes. He was again tardy out of the gate at Rotorua and settled third last before rider Sam Spratt urged him forward 600 metres from home and rounded off strongly for a hollow victory.“There wasn’t an awful lot of speed, so I didn’t want to let them get away from me. He cruised into it and then kicked away,” she said.We sold the colt at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale at Karaka where he was knocked down to agent Bruce Perry for $675,000.He is a son of the Showcasing mare Its Our Showtime, who is a half-sister to the G1 Railway Stakes winner Inspirational Girl and the family of Group winners Demonetization, Midnight Styling, Zingaling and Midnight Blue. Also the dam of Melbourne winer Proscenium Arch, Its Our Showtime produced a brother to Geriatrix last season and is back in foal to Almanzor.
