An impressive international pedigree was to the fore at Riccarton where Sailing Away added winning momentum to his career. We bred and sold the three-year-old son of Merchant Navy, who had previously placed once from four starts and broke through in his first crack over 1400 metres. The Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson-trained Sailing Away settled in the trail under Niranjan Parmar and finished resolutely along the fence to account for his older rivals.“It was a nice ride by Parmar, the horse has got a bit stronger and should go further as he’s out of a Galileo mare,” Walker said.Sailing Away was bought out of our draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale in 2022 for $60,000 with the ticket signed by Te Akau’s David Ellis and Fortuna’s John Galvin. He is the first foal of Anchovy, a mare we purchased at Tattersalls for 80,000gns and she is from the family of Group 1 winners and sires Duke Of Marmalade and Ruler Of The World. We offered Anchovy’s son of Fastnet Rock at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and he was knocked down to Ciaron Maker and Astute Bloodstock for A$525,000. The unraced juvenile has been named West Indies.Anchovy’s Almanzor colt was secured on the Gold Coast this year by Dynamic Syndications and Dean Watt Bloodstock for A$125,000 and the mare produced a son of Hello Youmzain last season and is back in foal to our Royal Ascot Group 1 winner.
