Cambridge Stud is one of New Zealand’s most prestigious thoroughbred breeding operations, renowned for its world-class facilities, outstanding bloodlines, and commitment to excellence. Each year we foal down 250 mares, process over 600 mares to line up for service and prepare approximately 70 yearlings for the major sales in New Zealand and Australia.
With a strong reputation in breeding and raising elite racehorses, we are seeking a highly motivated Resident Veterinarian to join our dedicated team.
As the Resident Veterinarian, you will play a pivotal role in managing the health and reproductive care of our stallions, broodmares, foals, and yearlings. This hands-on position focuses on reproductive work, foal health, and routine assessments, including pre-sale yearling evaluations such as scoping and x-rays. You will work closely with our experienced team to ensure the wellbeing and optimal development of our young stock.
• Provide high-quality veterinary care, including general health assessments, diagnostics, and treatment.
• Manage foaling services, neonatal care, and post-foaling recovery.
• Oversee reproductive care and routine mare and stallion management.
• Maintain detailed medical records for all horses using Ardex.
• Assist with yearling preparation, pre-sale scoping and x-rays.
• Provide emergency care as required and liaise with external veterinarians when needed.
• A qualified veterinarian (BVSc or equivalent) with the ability to practice in New Zealand.
• A minimum of 6 years of veterinary practice experience with expertise in equine reproduction, neonatal care, and pre-sale yearling work.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.
• Excellent communication and time management skills.
