When the Mark Walker-trained Zabene (Zabeel ex Emerald Dream, by Danehill) won the 138th Dunedin Gold Cup-LR yesterday, he provided his sire with his 126th individual black type winner.
Zabeel is just 4 black type winners short of the tally 130 stakeswinners Sir Tristram sired during his long and illustrious stud career at Cambridge Stud.
The progeny of Zabeel has enjoyed another hugely-successful Karaka Premier Sale, with 41 to sell for an average price of $315,732.
That placed Zabeel second on the averages list behind only Redoute's Choice who had only 7 to sell.
Also successful yesterday for Zabeel was Zarzuela (Zabeel ex Star Satire, by Volksraad) who confirmed her favouritism for next month's $2.2m Telecom Derby with a dominant win in the Waikato Guineas-Gr.3 (2000m) at Te Rapa.
Zarzuela had previously won the Great Northern Guineas-Gr.2 (2100m) at Ellerslie and has now had 7 starts for 3 wins and 2 seconds.
