Cambridge Stud’s former owner Sir Patrick Hogan was honoured with the Exporters’ Champion Award at the 2018 Air New Zealand Cargo ExportNZ Awards last night.

Over the last 40 years, Cambridge Stud has exported in excess of $260 million in horses to the likes of Australia, Europe and South-East Asia.

New Zealand Bloodstock Managing Director, Andrew Seabrook, accepted the award on Sir Patrick’s behalf and vindicated the ExportNZ Awards judging panel’s decision saying, “Sir Patrick has been a true leader in the development of the New Zealand thoroughbred export market setting the standards from which many vendors now aspire to.”

“A trendsetter in terms of international marketing strategies and networking, he raised the standard of international promotion of New Zealand-bred stock and hospitality offered at the Sales – and the results speak for themselves.”

Ensuring strong international demand and an iconic status, Cambridge Stud has sired or bred a staggering 141 Gr.1 winners.

The vast majority of these Gr.1 winners - 87 to be exact- achieved their Gr.1 success in Australia. This has resulted in seven Melbourne Cup winners, seven Australian Derby winners and no fewer than five Cox Plate winners.

“There is no doubt that Sir Patrick has played a significant part in making the New Zealand thoroughbred one of the most sought after on the planet,” said former Cambridge Stud staff member and now Westbury Stud CEO, Russell Warwick
