Lovazou continues hot form

Lovazou continues hot form13 Jul 2024

Our well-bred Zoustar filly Lovazou was an emphatic winner at Caulfield to remain unbeaten this preparation.

She was given a good run one out and one back by rider Carleen Hefel before peeling three wide at the top of the straight and let down powerfully to have a length and a-half on her closest rival at the end of 1400 metres.

The three-year-old has been patiently handled by trainer Danny O’Brien and had previously returned from a seven month break to post a first-up victory at Ballarat.

“She had a trial at Cranbourne last week and we’ve just kept her ticking over, she’s not a filly we have to do a lot with,” stable representative James Hicks said.

“Hopefully, she’ll continue to go on with it and we could step her up a bit in distance for another Saturday grade race and more black type will be the aim.”

Lovazou has now won three of her seven starts and also finished runner-up on debut in last season’s G3 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes.

We purchased her out of Kia Ora Stud’s draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for A$400,000.

Lovazou is a daughter of the Lonhro mare Lovani, a multiple winner and Group placegetter who is a half-sister to the Listed Lord Stakes winner Holbein and a sister to the G1 All-Aged Stakes runner-up Amenable.

The second dam is the Irish-bred Danehill Dancer mare Caribbean Sunset who was a three-time Group 3 winner and also placed three times at Group 1 level.
