Lovazou completes hat-trick in style17 Aug 2024

Talented but temperamental mare Lovazou was on her best behaviour at Caulfield and she duly made it three wins on the bounce.

Our daughter of Zoustar is unbeaten this preparation for trainer Danny O’Brien with her latest success another impressive performance over 1400 metres in the hands of Carleen Hefel.

However, it hasn’t all been plain sailing with the four-year-old who can be a handful at the starting gates.

Stable representative Jack Howard paid tribute to the parts played by Hefel and education and pre-training expert Julien Welsh.

“Full credit to Carleen and Julien, it’s been well publicised that she can be a tricky mare,” he said.

“It’s a nice time of the year for her to be in such a rich vein of form so we’ll see how she pulls up and try and find something else for her, potentially she might get out further.”

Lovazou jumped well to keep the leaders within her sights and she rounded off strongly to take her record to four wins from eight starts and a debut second in the Listed Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes.

We secured her out of Kia Ora Stud’s draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for A$400,000.

She is a daughter of the Lonhro mare Lovani, a multiple winner and Group placegetter who is a half-sister to the Listed Lord Stakes winner Holbein and a sister to the G1 All-Aged Stakes runner-up Amenable.

The second dam is the Irish-bred Danehill Dancer mare Caribbean Sunset, who was a three-time Group 3 winner and also placed three times at Group 1 level.
