Defining an emphatic winner

Consistent mare Defining gained a richly deserved victory at Randwick with a performance that left no excuses for her opposition.

Our homebred was settled in fifth spot by rider Tyler Schiller before circling runners four wide across the top.

The Annabel Neasham-trained daughter of Not A Single Doubt strode to the front 150 metres from home and she coasted home by a length and a-quarter.

“I can't take much credit for that. She got stuck wide, she had to do all the bullocking work, and it looks like the blinkers did the trick because she towed me where we needed to be instead of having to force her there,” Schiller said.

“She quickened up well in the straight. It was just a matter of whether she’d done too much work late, but she was very tough.

“She loves these wet tracks, which is probably a big bonus this time of year, but for a horse that big, she's got a big heart. It was a really tough win.”

We sold Defining for $225,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale with Mitchell Bloodstock and G1 Goldmine signing the ticket.

She won twice and finishing runner-up in the Listed Nitschke Stakes from Tony and Calvin McEvoy’s stable before she was offered at the 2023 Inglis Chairman’s Sale.

Defining sold to Mitchell Bloodstock and Yes Bloodstock for A$280,000 and relocated to Neasham’s yard and now has four wins and nine placings from her 19 starts.

She is out of the Encosta De Lago’s Group performed daughter Seduced, whose dam Dama De Noche won the G3 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes.

Seduced is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Nocturnelle and produced a filly last year by Hello Youmzain.
