Deauville double for shuttlers30 Jul 2024

Our shuttle stallions Almanzor and Hello Youmzain, who will be back on the farm next week, have combined for a significant winning double in France.

Wootton Bassett’s son Almanzor was represented by the G3 Prix de Psyche winner Almara, who was a worthy winner of the 2000 metre feature in the hands of Ronan Thomas at Deauville.

Earlier in the program, Hello Youmzain colt Misunderstood opened his career in fine style with a debut victory over 1500 metres.

The French-bred Almara is trained by Carlos and Yann Lerner and has won two of her eight starts and leading up to her Deauville effort, had three consecutive stakes placings to her credit.

The 18th stakes-winner for Almanzor, the filly is a half-sister to the G3 Prix Texanita winner Ilanga with their dam the Listed-performed Big Shuffle mare Molly Mara.

Misunderstood continued Hello Youmzain’s flying start in the Northern Hemisphere when he credited the multiple Group 1-winning son of Kodiac with his eighth first-crop success story from 20 representatives.

Trained by Mario Baratti and ridden by Alexis Pouchin, Misunderstood is a half-brother to the stakes winners Waldbeine and Urwald.

They are out of the Group performer Waldjagd, an Observatory mare whose half-brother Waldpark won the G1 German Derby with four-time elite level winner Waldgeist another decorated member of the family.
