Almanzor mare into Cup

Quality staying mare Positivity has booked her spot in a spring major with a determined second-up display.

The Andrew Forsman-trained daughter of our resident sire Almanzor finished second when resuming in the Listed Heatherlie Handicap and went one better in the G3 Foundation Cup to seal her berth in the G1 Caulfield Cup.

“That’s a pretty incredible feeling,” Forsman’s Flemington stable representative Chloe Cumming said.

“She's been super in her work coming into this and she looks amazing, so to see her get it on the line is pretty incredible.

“She’s come a long way since she came over in the autumn. She’s acclimatised and she’s been thriving since she’s been over here. She’s been loving it.”

Positivity was given an economical run in third spot on the fence by Harry Coffey who angled the four-year-old into the clear 300 metres from home and she rounded off strongly to earn a $17 quote for the Caulfield Cup.

“She’s a real scopey, lengthy type. I don't reckon she actually knows what’s going on fully yet, still a lot of raw ability there, but it’s good for her to win this race,” Coffey said.

“I suppose she’s going to get into the Caulfield Cup with no weight.

“I might have to get on the brown rice diet to ride her, but all you can do is win and that’s what she’s doing, so she’s going the right way.”

Positivity also enjoyed a lucrative three-year-old season and won the G3 Sunline Vase and finished runner-up in the G1 New Zealand Oaks before claiming the G3 South Australian Fillies’ Classic.

She was bred by Sir Patrick and Justine Lady Hogan with Peter Walker and was purchased out of Woburn Farm’s draft at Karaka by Ben Kwok for $160,000.

The filly is a daughter of the stakes-winning O’Reilly mare Pussy O’Reilly, who also finished runner-up in the G1 Makfi Challenge Stakes.
